RENAULT FACELIFTS MEGANE FOR 2012

- Renault releases first images of Megane 2012, including refreshed front styling
- Megane 2012 - the most fuel-efficient car in its class thanks to the introduction of three new Stop & Start engines: dCi 110, dCi 130 and the brand new TCe 115. The latter is the most powerful 1.2-litre petrol engine in the world, yet it returns exceptionally low combined-cycle fuel consumption (53.3 mpg and only 119g of CO2/km). It gives it theoretical range of about 620 miles to put it on a par with diesel models
- For extra comfort and safety, Megane 2012 features driver aids like Visio-System and Hill Start Assist which recently debuted on  Scenic 2012.
- Megane 2012 will go on sale in the UK from April

More modern styling

For 2012, Megane has undergone a number of small styling changes to freshen up the model’s original lines. The front end has a more modern feel, while LED daytime running lights provide a distinctive new lighting signature. The bumper features a gloss black finish with chrome highlights, and the selection of wheels has been entirely revised. The sum of these modifications mirrors the attention that has been paid to quality, an area which Renault sees as a priority.

Meanwhile, the cabin comes with new interior trims, including a two-tone leather pack available in a choice of two finishes in the UK. The personality of the specific GT-Line finishes has also been enhanced inside and out thanks to specific ‘boomerang’-shaped LED lights, visible red upholstery stitching and a sports steering wheel incorporating thumb rests, plus Renault Sport-badged door sill guards and dashboard trim strip, serving as a reminder that it belongs to the Renaultsport family. Last but not least, the list of body colours available for Megane 2012 has been extended with the addition of Azzurro Blue and Arctic White.

Megane 2012: ‘Stop and Start’ downsized engine power

Megane 2012 is the first Renault model to be available with the three new Stop & Start engines which combine both motoring enjoyment and fuel efficiency. They are the fruit of new-generation downsizing and call on Renault’s experience in F1 to form unprecedented technology packages for this level of range, including Stop & Start complete with deceleration/braking energy recovery. Thanks to their carefully-tuned acoustics, these engines produce a discreet, cushioned sound, with noise levels halved compared with the engines they replace.

- Renault TCe 115 Stop & Start – the return of petrol engines: the TCe 115 is the first Renault petrol engine to feature direct fuel injection and turbocharging for fuel-efficient performance. This new 1,198cc block is poised to replace the 1.6 16V and boasts both extra power (up 5hp to 115hp) and peak torque up 40Nm to 190Nm, with 90 per cent of this figure available from 1,650rpm. Its flexibility and acceleration from low revs are consequently similar to those of a diesel engine. In addition to being the market’s best-performing 1.2-litre petrol powerplant, the Renault TCe 115 Stop & Start is particularly energy efficient, with fuel consumption down 25 per cent. Versions of Megane 2012 powered by this engine consume just 53.3 mpg (combined cycle), a record for a petrol car in this class. CO2 emissions are down to 119g/km, while the car’s range is in the region of 620 miles, which is similar to the distances associated with diesel models.

Megane 2012 will also be available with the two best diesel engines in their class, both of which combine driving pleasure with the market’s lowest fuel consumption.

- New diesel dCi 110 Stop & Start: the Megane range’s best-selling 1.5 dCi engine has undergone a significant metamorphosis with the introduction of technology first introduced in 2011 on the 1.6 dCi 130, not to mention record low fuel consumption which has been improved by 15 per cent to 80.7 mpg. This is equivalent to CO2 emissions of just 90g/km and makes Megane one of its segment’s top three models in terms of energy efficiency. There has been no corresponding fall-off in performance, however, since peak torque is up 20Nm to 260Nm, which is available from as low as 1,750rpm.
- Renault dCi 130 Stop & Start: this 1.6-litre diesel engine delivers 130 horsepower and 320Nm of torque, making it one of the market’s most powerful powerplants for its size. It is also a pleasure to drive thanks to crisp acceleration performance from as low as 1,750rpm. Under the bonnet of Megane, it returns combined-cycle fuel consumption of just 70.6 mpg, which is a 20 per cent saving compared to the former 1.9 dCi 130 engine. CO2 emissions stand at 104g/km.

Useful, affordable technologies

More than ever, enhancing everyday safety, making driving easier and maximising travelling comfort are seen as priorities for Renault.
Like Renault Scenic and Grand Scenic, Megane 2012 can be ordered with the Visio System® which comprises a camera fixed to the windscreen behind the rear view mirror. It improves night-time vision and helps maintain driver vigilance thanks to two functions which it is the first system of its type to feature.
- Automatically switches from main- to dipped-beam headlights: night-time driving calls for total vigilance, especially when it comes to optimising lighting in order to benefit from maximum visibility without being a hindrance for other road users. The Visio System® camera improves night-time vision by permanently scanning the road ahead. Whenever natural or street lighting is poor, and when no other vehicles are detected, it automatically switches to full-beam headlights at speeds of more than 28 mph. Remembering to switch back to dipped beam is no longer a constraint and the Visio System® permits the driver to benefit from full-beam headlights between four and five times longer than is the case without the system. Visibility is enhanced (100 metres instead of 30 metres) and there is less risk of colliding with an obstacle.
- Lane departure warning: the camera emits a warning if it believes that the vehicle has involuntarily changed lanes, an occurrence frequently due to drowsiness or a drop in driver vigilance, and a major cause of accidents, especially on motorways. If lane markings are crossed without the indicators having been being activated, visible and audible warnings are automatically activated.

Comfort has been further enhanced by a new Hill Start Assist function. This feature is combined with the electronic parking brake and keeps the brakes under pressure for a few seconds, giving the driver enough time to pull away without the vehicle moving backwards. Meanwhile, Motorway Mode indicators facilitate driving: a slight touch of the indicator stalk sets off three flashes to warn other road users that the driver is about to change lane. To assist parking manoeuvres, a camera located at the rear provides a precise image of the vehicle’s immediate surroundings and depicts its trajectory to help drivers adjust their line. Last but not least, the dual-zone automatic climate control is now equipped with a quality sensor which monitors cabin air quality and automatically activates the air-recycling mode whenever necessary.

Megane 2012 continues to pack the technologies that have contributed to the model’s success. All radios are now equipped with Bluetooth® hands-free telephony, connectivity and audio-streaming, as well as multi-functional TunePoint  and USB/jack sockets which enable music stored on mobile devices to be controlled by the vehicle’s steering wheel-mounted fingertip control. Also available are Carminat TomTom® navigation complete with LIVE services (HD Traffic, real-time traffic information, etc.) and tailor-engineered Bose® surround sound.

Renault Megane: the flagship of Renault’s Quality drive
Megane 2012 cars are manufactured in Palencia, Spain, and benefit from rigorous production standards to guarantee impeccable quality.   The model recently featured in a media campaign promoting quality ‘à la française’ and is destined to serve as a global flagship for the Renault group’s expertise in this domain across the entire range, from initial design to the showroom.

Jean-Pierre Vallaude (Senior Vice-President, Quality): “Megane is a credible ambassador for the quality of Renault vehicles thanks to its outstanding reliability and perceived quality which have improved with every evolution of the model. Megane is destined to become the worldwide quality benchmark for all Renault vehicles…”
As the Renault brand’s best-selling model, with sales exceeding 235,000 units worldwide in 2011 and 730,000 units since its launch at the end of 2008, Megane today stands out as one of the most reliable cars in its class. This reliability is recognised by the media (e.g. L’Automobile Magazine’s Reliability Top 100) and has been underlined by independent bodies such as Germany’s ADAC which have placed it at the top end of their respective classifications.
Following the pledge to continue improving made by Renault in 2003, Megane III saw a 40 per cent reduction in reliability-related incidents during a car’s first year on the road compared to its predecessor.
Megane III has benefited from reinforced design and validation processes which take both durability and ageing into account. At the design phase, for example, a list of 100 specific points was taken into account to ensure impeccable reliability and improve running- and appearance durability compared to Megane II. Special attention was paid to reducing noise, improving sealing and the reliability of electronic components.

Megane Renaultsport 265: extra horsepower and more torque for even punchier performance
Megane Renaultsport 265’s ‘Renaultsport Dynamic Management’ delivers 15 extra horsepower and 20Nm additional torque. By selecting the Sport Mode, the driver can benefit from peak power of 265hp and up to 360Nm of torque for even crisper acceleration response. Thanks to this Renaultsport innovation, it is possible to use Megane Renaultsport 265’s potential to the full, notably on tracks. At the same time, the sound produced by Megane Renaultsport.’s engine has been revised to ensure a satisfying pitch at all revs thanks a more open exhaust design and a reinforced sound pipe.

In terms of looks, the front end is more expressive, while the F1-style front blade which is a characteristic of Renaultsport models features two rows of six LEDs and the headlights sport black surrounds. The centre of the new design 18-inch alloy wheels (satin finish or matt black) as well as the 19-inch wheels, feature an ‘R.S.’ logo, and a new option is the Renaultsport Red Design Pack which comprises red striping for the front blade, side sills and diffuser. A new interior trim has been introduced, featuring visible red stitching for the steering wheel, dashboard trim, gearlever knob and surround. The new, distinctive two-tone light grey and charcoal leather upholstery can also be specified as an option, as can fabric or leather Recaro seats and a predominantly yellow ambience. Other sporty details include a black lacquer finish for the centre console and air vent surrounds, plus a charcoal-effect finish for the door panel inserts.

Thanks to its exceptional dynamic qualities, Megane Renaultsport stands out as the C segment’s best-selling high-performance coupé. It has won over 12,500 buyers worldwide since its European launch in January 2010, as well as in Russia, Argentina, Chile, Australia, Japan and South Africa. In June 2011, it established a new record of 8mins 8secs for a lap of the Nürburgring, making it the fastest front-wheel drive car ever round the ‘Nordschleife’. Acclaimed by the world’s press, Megane Renaultsport has won four awards and is frequently compared to the most prestigious super cars for the driving sensations it delivers. Renaultsport has also showcased Megane Renaultsport’s potential in motorsport with the production-based N4 which won its class in the Belgian and Germany rally championships.

Energy engines: Renault’s technological excellence in F1 carried over to road car engines for the benefit of all motorists
“F1 provides us with an extraordinary proving ground to test new technologies in extreme conditions,” says Carlos Tavares, Renault’s Chief Operating Officer. “Our 30-year commitment to the sport has enabled us to develop our downsizing expertise, combat friction and control cooling, all of which contribute to improving the energy efficiency of our vehicles without spoiling driving enjoyment.”
With ten Constructors’ world titles to its name, Renault called on talent from the world of Formula 1 to carry over the technological excellence acquired on the race track to the development of its new range of diesel Stop & Start engines. Philippe Coblence and Jean-Philippe Mercier, the men behind the success of Renault’s V10 in the 1990s, were entrusted with the engineering development of the new 1.6 dCi 130 and 1.2 TCe 115 engines. Their skill has benefited road cars by taking the concept of downsizing to new limits thanks to solutions tried and tested in F1. These engines boast an unprecedented technological package for this level of range and have led to fuel consumption savings of up to 25 per cent compared to the engines they replace.

Visio System by Renault (lane departure warning and automatic headlight
low/high beam), plus Hill Start Assist

•  Range pricing and specification to be released closer to launch. UK order
books open 1st February 2012, ahead of first deliveries in March

Ahead of its UK launch next February, Renault has released initial details for the freshly revitalised Scenic and Grand Scenic models for 2012, including sharper designs, the brand debut of two impressive downsized engines and numerous equipment enhancements.
Scenic 2012 – contemporary lines with a sharper look
Since its summer launch in 2009, the fluid lines and generous interior dimensions of the two-model Scenic line-up have continued to attract a wide range of buyers. Just over two years on, Renault has sought to build on the appeal of Europe’s best-selling compact MPV, with a series of exterior upgrades. Among them are a revised front end which is both modern and status enhancing, while its new rear lights add a particularly dynamic touch.

The changes continue with the fitment of LED daytime running lights, gloss black features and chrome details (at the front, plus tailgate strip and side moulding strip), plus a new range of wheel trims and alloy wheels. Grand Scenic’s more contemporary front end provides a more imposing look. Two new body colours will also be available, Azzurro Blue and Damask Red.

New downsized engines for greater performance and fuel efficiency
Renault’s work on driving down emissions, combined with ever-improving fuel economy and performance through smaller cubic capacity engine innovation has borne more fruit. Following the trend begun by the petrol 1.4 TCe 130 and 1.5 dCi 110, and most recently the arrival of the 1.6 dCi 130, the world’s most powerful and frugal diesel engine of its size, Scenic welcomes two new engines. The first, 1.5 dCi 110 Stop & Start, is an enhanced version of the French marque’s core diesel engine. Benefiting from several clever technologies derived from Formula 1 (Stop & Start, brake energy regeneration), it combines record low CO2 emissions of 105 grams per kilometre (reduced by 23g/km), and a 12 per cent saving in fuel consumption (up 11.3 mpg to 68.9), yet higher torque (260Nm at 1,750rpm; a gain of 20Nm) compared with the existing 1.5 dCi 110.

From spring 2012, the five- and seven-seater versions of Scenic will also be the first Renaults to receive the brand new 1.2 TCe 115 petrol engine. Due to gradually replace the 1.6 VVT 110, it offers low CO2 emissions (135g/km), 190Nm of torque (up 39Nm) and fuel consumption improved by a fifth, up 11.4 mpg to 49.6.

Joining them will be the highly acclaimed 1.6 dCi 130 Stop & Start, which itself boasts 20% better fuel consumption than its former 1.9 dCi 130 stablemate, together with greater performance and even lower emissions.

Thanks to these engines, Scenic and Grand Scenic will each play an important part in achieving Renault’s target to become Europe’s number one manufacturer with regard to the CO2 emissions of its range, without detracting from performance. They also highlight that the French brand’s proven powertrain excellence is still clearly evident as its relentless electric vehicle rollout begins in earnest.
Affordable technologies - improved comfort and a more reassuring ride
Enhanced everyday safety, making life for drivers as hassle-free as possible and maximising wellbeing for those on board continue to be priorities for Renault. Scenic and Grand Scenic will be the first Renault models to feature the Visio System by Renault which assists the driver’s vigilance and night-time vision thanks to two key functions. This latest innovation by the French brand combines a lane departure warning system (a camera detects if the drivers strays out of lane and triggers an audible signal) and an automatic headlight function (the same camera detects the lights of nearby vehicles and/or the presence of street lighting to automatically switch from dipped to main beam, and vice versa).

Driving and travelling comfort have been further enhanced by the addition of new features which come as standard equipment. As its name suggests, Hill Start Assist prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards when pulling away on a slope, while motorway-mode indicators warn other motorists when the driver is about to change lanes by flashing three times following a simple flick of the indicator stalk.

The 2012 versions of Scenic and Grand Scenic also carry over technologies that have helped forge the model’s success to date, from the tailor-engineered sound of the Bose® audio system to Carminat TomTom® navigation and associated LIVE services (HD Traffic, etc.).

Renault Scenic and Grand Scenic: Europe’s number one compact MPV
Scenic and Grand Scenic, are manufactured in Douai, in northern France, where they benefit from the most exacting production standards to guarantee the highest level of quality. Together, they top their segment in Europe, with sales in excess of 400,000 examples since the launch of the current generation at the end of 2009. Just shy of 3.9 million Scenic have found homes since it took the market by storm in 1996.

Further details on Scenic 2012 range pricing and specification will be released closer to launch. UK order books are set to open on 1st February 2012, ahead of first deliveries in March.

Details about the rest of the Renault range, can be found at www.renault.co.uk, Renault TV on Sky Guide 883 and Freesat 651, or by following on twitter @renault_uk.

RENAULT VANS OUT OF THIS WORLD FOR APOLLO BLINDS THANKS TO HARWOODS

Apollo Blinds is the latest island business to take delivery of a new Kangoo Van from Harwoods Renault.

The company, which has been supplying blinds, canopies, awnings and shutters to business and private customers all over the island for just over 20 years, selected a brand new Kangoo Van for Ben Youle who recently joined the family business.

The business is run by his father John Youle who has been driving a Renault Trafic Sport, also supplied by Harwoods Renault, for two years. When his son joined the business, he wanted him to enjoy the comfort and style of a Renault van.

He said: “We use one van for marketing and one for fitting blinds and shutters. Sometimes you sit in the van in between appointments, so it doubles as an office. It was therefore important to choose a van that was comfortable and comes with features such as a radio, CD player and air conditioning.”

Paul Hunt, Sales Director at Harwoods Renault, said: “Vans and cars are an important tool of the trade for local businesses such as Apollo so I hope they enjoy the comfort, style and safety that the Trafic and Kangoo have to offer.  They’ll also be delighted to know that fuel economy is second-to-none on Renault vans, meaning that fuel costs are one less thing to worry about.”

ISLE OF WIGHT CLIO FANS HELP CELEBRATE 20TH ANNIVERSARY

 OF VA VA VOOM

Paul Durbridge from Roadwise Driving School pictured with his daughter Amy and Paul Hunt from Harwoods with the line up of Clios; from left: mark 111, mark 11 and mark 1.

As Renault celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Clio, an Isle of Wight family is proving that they can more than match the brand’s enthusiasm for the car.

Paul Durbridge, a driving instructor who runs the successful Roadwise Driving School, has joined Harwoods Renault in celebrating 20 years of Va Va Voom. He can claim to be one of the island’s biggest Clio fans, having had at least four of each incarnation of the popular supermini in the last two decades.

His parents drove nothing but Renault cars, and Paul himself has passed on his love for the Clio to driving school pupils and his family, including his two daughters Amy and Lucy who both drive mark II Clios.

Having driven the Clio since 1990, he now drives a New Clio which he says is perfect for his work.

He said: “It’s safe, easy to teach in and extremely comfortable for me which is important as it’s really my office.

“My pupils love them as much as I do, and in all the time I’ve driven them, I’ve only ever been let down once when I put petrol into a diesel car!”

Harwoods Renault Sales Director, Paul Hunt, said: “It’s unbelievable to think that the Clio has been with us for 20 years, so it’s a nice opportunity to look back and see how far the car has come since it was introduced by Nicole and Papa.

It’s always a pleasure to meet customers like Paul who display such enthusiasm for the brand, as well as an outstanding knowledge of everything Renault and we hope he, his family and his pupils continue to enjoy the Clio.”

Harwoods is holding 20 days of special offers and also giving local motorists the chance to enter a nationwide draw where one lucky driver could win a Clio 20th Special Edition simply by taking a test drive of any car from the range before the end of June.

Harwoods is also celebrating a milestone of its own as 2010 is the 50th anniversary of the dealership’s Renault franchise.

SHANKLIN LADIES SCORE NEW TRACKSUITS FROM HARWOODS

Shanklin women’s footballers will be proudly wearing new tracksuits thanks to a new deal with Harwoods.

The company has paid for tracksuits for all squad members whose first team plays in the Southern Premier League and the reserve team who play in the Hampshire second division and have recently been promoted to the first division.

The team is managed by Trevor Thorne of Hillbans, a local pest control and property preservation company whose fleet requirements are looked after by Harwoods.  He approached Harwoods as the two companies have a long-standing relationship of more than 35 years.

Trevor said: “This is a great endorsement for our club from Harwoods. Our players show true dedication to the sport and have never let me down.  We play other much bigger sides such as Oxford and Southampton, and because we have to travel to the mainland, we have much higher costs travelling back and forth.

“We approached Harwoods as the dealership is always extremely supportive of local charities and clubs. We’d like to thank them for their help.”

Harwoods Sales Director, Paul Hunt, said: “We hope that the players will enjoy their new tracksuits.

“We’re sure that their enthusiasm and commitment combined with the new tracksuits will enable them to achieve great results next season.”

RENAULT UNVEIL `WIND` AT GENEVA

In a World Première at the Geneva Motor Show on 2 March, Renault unveiled its brand-new coupé-roadster – Wind.

Wind is a two-seater coupé-roadster of 3.83 metres in length which features a highly innovative way of opening up. With its novel electric roof that pivots open in just 12 seconds, Wind brings a completely different take on a car for drivers who enjoy open top motoring.

Wind is aimed at motorists who lust after a car that is not only distinctive and compact, but also convertible yet practical enough for everyday use.

Although Wind’s compact dimensions make it a nimble machine in and about town, it is the only car of its class to provide just as much luggage space (270dm3 VDA) whatever the position of the roof.

True to Renault`s brand signature "Drive the Change", Wind makes passion affordable for everyone.

RENAULT AT GENEVA 2010: FUN IS BACK ON THE MENU

As a champion and pioneer of the principle of sustainable mobility for all, Renault sees the automobile as a means for mankind to progress. In keeping with this ambition, the brand sees the Geneva Motor Show as a chance to revive the tradition of affordable cars that place the emphasis on motoring enjoyment thanks to a combination of exciting styling, performance and innovation.

At Geneva, Renault premieres two new convertible models: New Mégane Coupé-Cabriolet and Wind.

The former is the Renault’s fourth consecutive C-segment cabriolet. Its arresting looks combine the elegance of a coupé with the promise of the pleasure that goes hand-in-hand with open-top motoring. Meanwhile, Wind gives a completely new take in the world of compact roadsters. It is an inventive, fun-to-drive coupé-roadster that lends itself perfectly to everyday motoring.

The addition of GT and GT Line versions to the Mégane line-up provides the model`s range with even racier, more distinctive appeal thanks to a mix of striking looks and a sporty interior, combined with a carefully-tuned chassis and a range of responsive powerplants.

Another exciting development is the extension of the Gordini `French Touch` treatment to Clio. The smart blue livery and famous white racing stripes are now available for two Renault hot hatches, namely Twingo Gordini 133 and Clio Gordini 200.

RENAULT LAUNCHES SPORTY NEW CLIO ‘S’

  • Clio S range priced from £11,209 to £13,458 on-the-road

While its flagship Renaultsport models continue to raise the hot hatch bar and obliterate their rivals in equal measure, Renault is also seeking to bring the sporty look and feel to the core Clio range with the launch of a new ‘S’ version.

Resurrecting the successful Clio S formula from the early 90s, the new three-door versions hark back to the original through their trademark white 16-inch ‘Polar’ alloy wheels. Among the other cosmetic changes, are a white front bumper insert and white ‘GT’ rear spoiler,  while to the sides and roof, some optional slightly less subtle white racing stripes catch the eye with an ‘S’ incorporated into each band. Completing the package, are extra tinted rear windows and tailgate for a truly contemporary look.

The sporty theme continues on the inside, with a bespoke interior including ‘S’ embossed upholstery, leather steering wheel and striking white centre console, dashboard inserts and instrument dials.

The new entrants are based on the Expression specification, currently only available on five-door. They come with a choice of three responsive and frugal engines, 1.2 16V 75, 1.2 TCe 100 and 1.5 dCi 86, all of which meet Renault’s eco2 criteria.

RENAULT’S FOUR ELECTRIC VEHICLE CONCEPTS SHOCK FRANKFURT

Renault generated quite a buzz at the opening of the 2009 Frankfurt motor show, with the unveiling of an unprecedented four electric vehicle concepts, as well as releasing further details on the future infrastructure and technology behind them.

All Renault’s concept cars on show in Germany previewed its electric vehicle range which will be released from 2011 and cater for a wide variety of different customers and uses.

In summary, the Renault electric vehicle highlights for the show are:

  • Twizy Z.E. Concept: pearlescent white ultra-compact and nimble 1+1 zero-emission city car, with 15kW motor (20hp) and footprint barely larger than a scooter (2.3m long, 1.13m wide and turning circle of 3m). It has a top speed of 47mph, with acceleration comparable to 125cc motorbike
  • Zoe Z.E. Concept: compact, four-seat supermini for short daily journeys in urban areas. Scissor doors at the front and butterfly doors at the rear, with polyurethane gel for front and rear of car to underline its hi-tech feel and protect components against minor knocks in town. Features 70kW motor for 100 mile range, 21” alloy wheels and retractable rear spoiler for greater aerodynamic efficiency. Comes complete with personalisable avatar for driving information, mood lighting and futuristic `hydrate, detox and active scent` climate control
  • Fluence Z.E. Concept: electric version of all-new, elegant five-seat Fluence saloon with range of 100 miles for family driving, ahead of production for Israeli market with Project Better Place. Boasts low-rolling resistance Michelin tyres and Samsung Jet phones
  • Kangoo Z.E. Concept: previews electric van for fleet and commercial use with 70kW electric motor, solar roof panels and even a heated steering wheel
  • Quickdrop’: three distinct vehicle charging methods, of which this is one. Rapid exchange stations replace batteries within three minutes

In line with the values championed by the Renault brand, its electric vehicles will offer customers a spacious interior, comfort, quality and safety. They will also feature a distinctive design signature.

Electric vehicles represent the clean-break solution which can put zero-emission mobility within everyone`s reach. In line with the brand`s Renault eco² environmental policy, Renault Z.E. electric vehicles are poised to be marketed on a large scale to take a decisive stand on the environment.

Renault begins marketing affordable production electric vehicles in 2011, with the Renault-Nissan Alliance targeting number one status mass-market zero-emission vehicle sales.

Twizy Z.E. Concept is an innovative response to the challenge of urban mobility. With its four-wheel chassis, it offers the driver and passenger, seated in tandem, an all-electric means of transport which produces no CO2 emissions. Compact, nimble and practical, it offers everything needed to cope with city traffic.

Wraparound bodywork creates a safe, reassuring cocoon which offers first-class protection for both driver and passenger. Power comes from a 15kW electric motor which develops 70Nm of torque, making Twizy Z.E. Concept versatile and easy to drive. Acceleration in urban and suburban traffic is comparable to that of a 125cc motorbike.

The second showcar, Zoe Z.E. Concept, is evidence that an all-electric zero-emission vehicle can also boast smart, appealing looks. Its special roof optimises the management of the climate control system to ensure extended range, while the ambience inside the cabin can be customised. Over and above its traditional role, the climate control system breaks new ground thanks to its `hydrating`, `detox` and `active scent` functions which combine to enhance travel. Zoe Z.E. Concept is a compact, versatile car for daily use, which represents a new form of transport thanks to the option of three battery-charging techniques.

The third all-new´concept at Frankfurt, Fluence Z.E. Concept, is a statement of Renault`s intent to produce a range of zero-emission vehicles that meets the needs of all types of motorists. A genuine four-door family car with attractive styling, comfort and space, it proves that such features can go hand in hand with respect for the environment.

Fluence Z.E. Concept is an all-electric car with a range of 100 miles. The battery can be charged using one of three methods: a standard charge (between four and eight hours), a quick charge (20 minutes) or an immediate solution (three minutes) which takes the form of the exclusive `Quickdrop` rapid battery exchange system. The saloon concept previews the forthcoming electric version of Fluence and represents a solution to zero-emission motoring in the world of tomorrow.

Kangoo Z.E. Concept is based on the Kangoo and brings zero-emission mobility to the professional road-user. Powered by a 70kW electric motor, delivering 226Nm of torque, in conjunction with a lithium-ion battery, its energy consumption is minimised thanks not only to the careful attention that has been paid to its overall design, but also to energy optimisation, without impacting the high standard of comfort. Kangoo Z.E. Concept`s many information functions make it a particularly user-friendly, efficient and interactive vehicle.

In addition to the four concept cars on show, Renault also chose Frankfurt to unveil its exclusive `Quickdrop` battery exchange system, as well as further details on the two other battery power solutions.

There will be three options to re-fuel Renault’s zero-emission vehicles:

  • Standard charge: takes between four and eight hours, via a charging socket situated on the outside of the vehicle.
  • Quick charge: in 20 minutes, using the same socket at specific charging points.
  • `Quickdrop` system: three minutes at a rapid battery exchange station.

Range optimisation is the greatest challenge for electric vehicles. This is why Renault is working hard to make the process as simple and efficient as possible by planning for all types of charging needs and methods.

SB ELECTRICAL JUMPS INTO NEW RENAULT KANGOOS FROM HARWOODS

A growing electrical contracting company based in Sandown and Cowes has taken delivery of four 09 plate Renault Kangoo vans from Harwoods in Wootton.

SB Electrical was formed in 2007 by 24-year old director Scott Adams, and has since grown in an ever- increasing competitive market to become one of the largest electrical contractors on the Isle of Wight.

Scott said: “Harwoods has shown fantastic support over the last few months, and the Kangoo vans were by far the best in the field, a great asset to add to our existing fleet.

“We went for the recently-launched New Kangoo Van which looks great. The engines are more frugal and the vans have the space to achieve greater efficiency as they double as a mobile workshop. We’d like to thank Paul at Harwoods and his team for their help.”

Paul Hunt, Sales Director at Harwoods Renault, said: “As ever, we’re delighted to help out a local business. SB Electrical serves the whole of the island, and needed a fleet of vehicles that would be comfortable for their engineers and that could transport the wide range of equipment needed for their work.

The New Renaultsport Megane Coupe 250.

As the latest in a long line of Renaultsport models, the New Mégane Renaultsport 250 stands out through its unrivalled combination of exhilarating performance and handling. The mix of its 250hp engine and stunning new coupé design demonstrate that Renaultsport remain top of their class.

Going on sale later this year, the New Mégane Renaultsport 250 has had its first public unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show.

The 2-litre 16-valve turbocharged petrol engine now boasts maximum power of 250hp at 5,500rpm and peak torque of 340Nm from 3,000rpm, an improvement of 20hp and 40Nm over the previous Mégane Renaultsport R26. The Renaultsport engine`s twin-scroll turbo is exceptionally responsive and is particularly responsive at lows revs, with 80 per cent of maximum torque available from just 1,900rpm.

The New Mégane Renaultsport 250 has inherited the same suspension arrangement as the current Mégane Renaultsport. Thanks to an independent steering axis layout at the front, the suspension and steering functions have been separated to ensure a particularly high standard of handling and traction performance. Just as with the Renaultsport versions of Clio and Twingo, the New Mégane Renaultsport 250 is available with a choice of two chassis settings: standard or Cup, the latter with a limited slip differential.

The New Mégane Renaultsport 250’s stunning coupé design features a front bumper incorporating LED daytime running lights, a splitter from the design of the nose of the R28 Formula 1 car, a central rear exhaust, rear diffuser and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside you’ll find all the features you’d expect: Renaultsport front seats and steering wheel together with a digital speedometer with analogue rev-counter, visual and audible gearshift indicator and aluminium pedals, all signed off with the Renaultsport logo on the headrests, rev-counter and fascia.
